Beefy Pasta Sauce (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base

01 - 1 medium onion, finely diced
02 - 4 minced garlic cloves
03 - 2 pounds of lean ground beef

→ Tomato Base

04 - 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes (San Marzano preferred)
05 - 1 can of tomato sauce (15 oz)
06 - 1 tablespoon concentrated tomato paste

→ Seasonings

07 - 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
08 - 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse Kosher salt
09 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
10 - 2 tablespoons of a good Italian herb blend

# Instructions:

01 - Using a heavy pot on medium heat, let the ground beef brown for about 5 minutes. Get rid of any extra grease, then toss in the chopped onions and cook until they’re soft and clear.
02 - Mix garlic and tomato paste into the meat, letting them cook briefly (about 1 minute). Then, pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and all the seasonings.
03 - Fill the empty 15-oz tomato sauce can with water and pour it into the pot. Drop the heat to low, leave the lid slightly off, and let it cook gently for 45-50 minutes. Stir it once in a while until it thickens.
04 - Spoon the sauce over cooked pasta. Sprinkle some grated Parmesan and a bit of fresh parsley on top.

# Notes:

01 - This hearty sauce tastes like it’s been on the stove all day but is ready in just about an hour. If you’ve got more time, simmer for 2 hours and add 1/2 cup of water for even better flavor.
02 - Stores well in the fridge for up to 5 days or can be frozen for up to 3 months. Divide into small batches for easier meal prep later.
