John Wayne Casserole (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat & Dough

01 - 2 lbs of ground beef
02 - 1 packet (1 oz) taco spice mix with water as instructed
03 - 16 oz can of regular biscuits

→ Cheesy Cream Blend

04 - 1/2 cup mayo
05 - 1/2 cup sour cream
06 - 8 oz shredded cheddar, split

→ Veggie Mix

07 - 1 medium red bell pepper, sliced and halved
08 - 2 medium tomatoes in slices
09 - 1 medium onion, sliced in halves
10 - 4 oz canned jalapeño slices

# Instructions:

01 - Set oven to 350°F and move the oven rack to the middle. Lightly coat a 13x9 inch glass dish with cooking spray.
02 - Flatten out the biscuits in the pan as one layer, pressing them together and halfway up the edges. Let bake on a tray for 12 to 15 minutes till barely golden around the edges. Keep oven going while letting the base cool.
03 - Cook the ground beef until no pink remains, then drain. Add the taco mix with water as directed on the packet. Place in a bowl and set aside.
04 - In a bowl, mix together mayo, sour cream, half the cheddar cheese, and half the onion slices.
05 - Use the same skillet from before to sauté the rest of the onions and bell peppers until softened just a bit.
06 - Spread layers onto the biscuit crust in this order: ground beef, fresh tomato slices, cooked veggies, jalapeños, creamy mix, and the remaining cheese. Leave uncovered and bake for 30-40 minutes until the edges are golden and cheese melts.

# Notes:

01 - It's a good idea to use an oven thermometer since oven temps can vary.
02 - Feel free to swap store-bought taco seasoning with your homemade version.
